Monthly 1:1 Holistic Nutrition + Wellness Counseling

*1:1 calls with email support, collaboration with other providers, resources, recipes, product and restaurant recommendations, pantry lists and more!

This program renews on a month-to-month basis. Although there is no minimum or maximum time commitment, please note that this is not a quick fix or detox. This is not weight loss-centered care. This is not macros, calorie-counting, or dieting. This is a program dedicated to highly individualized lifestyle and behavior changes that focus on non-scale wins such as honoring your hunger and fullness, breaking free of diet culture, and allowing food to be your ally. On average, clients remain in the program for at least 6-9 months. A 30-day notice of cancellation must be provided prior to ending.

Initial Assessment: In this initial assessment session we take a deep dive into your relationship with food and mood, health and medical history, goals, and lifestyle. We’ll then create a customized roadmap to get you on your way towards a better dynamic with food.

Follow-up Sessions: After we establish your goals and plan, we’ll target symptoms, behaviors, and relationship to food in a non-judgmental and exploratory way. You will come out of follow-up sessions having established specific goals for you to work on. You will have access to a variety of resources including an Intuitive Eating Workbook, recipe recommendations, grocery store, and pantry lists, and more!

The goals are to allow food freedom and liberalization, acknowledge and pinpoint triggering foods or other attunement disrupters, and learn to operate in a way that is most comfortable both mentally and physically.

Stool Testing: When appropriate Rachel Naar Nutrition utilizes The GI-MAP (GI-Microbial Assay Plus) stool test, which utilizes cutting edge, Quantitative PCR technology to provide a true DNA/PCR based stool analysis The test can detect bacterial pathogens, parasites, viruses, paint a picture of normal flora, uncover opportunistic bacteria overgrowth, autoimmune triggers, and information on digestive health including digestive enzymes, food intolerance, and immune function. Together we can identify and address the underlying root cause of your symptoms and create an individualized protocol that also takes into consideration your relationship to food.

Hormone Testing: When appropriate Rachel Naar Nutrition utilizes The DUTCH Test, at-home hormone testing using saliva and dried urine offering an extensive profile of sex and adrenal hormones and melatonin, along with their metabolites. The test helps to identify symptoms of hormonal imbalances such as PCOS, PMDD, PMS, and Estrogen Dominance. Together we create a customized protocol to help balance your hormones and provide nutritional support from an anti-oppressive lens.

facts + questions

What’s included in Monthly 1:1 Holistic Nutrition + Wellness Counseling?

Monthly Holistic Nutrition + Wellness Counseling includes the client sessions as well as email support, research, resources, meal guidance, recipe ideas, referrals, as well as collaboration between Rachel Naar Nutrition and the rest of your treatment team to coordinate care (e.g.; Therapist, Psychiatrist/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Primary Care Physician, other appropriate providers as necessary).

Do you accept health insurance?

Rachel Naar Nutrition is an out-of-network provider and does not take or communicate directly with insurance. If you have out-of-network insurance benefits, these may apply to nutrition services. If so, you would pay us directly and then we provide you with a Superbill receipt that you can submit to your insurance company. Depending on your benefits, you may be able to receive full or partial reimbursement for your nutrition counseling sessions.

If you have out-of-network benefits we recommend that you call your insurance company directly to learn about coverage. They can inform you of whether you will receive any reimbursement for our services, or whether the cost can be applied towards any deductible.

Step 1: Call Your Insurance Customer Service Line

The phone number for customer service is generally located on the back of your insurance card. Call and ask to speak to the benefits department. If your employer provides your plan, your HR department may be able to call on your behalf.

Step 2: Ask The Following Questions About Your Benefits

  • Are Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)/Nutrition Counseling covered by my out-of-network benefits with CPT code: 97802 (initial assessment) and 97803(follow-up sessions)?

  • Is coverage dependent on my diagnosis (ICD-10 diagnosis code)?

    • Are there certain diagnosis codes that are covered or are not covered?

  • Are there any out-of-network benefits for preventative care (Z codes)?

    • If so, which Z codes and what are the requirements?

  • What percentage of outpatient medical nutrition therapy sessions are covered per session and for what amount of sessions?

    • Are there a certain number of nutrition visits per calendar year?

    • Is there a co-pay?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible and how much of my deductible has been met?

  • Are out-of-network telehealth visits covered? If yes, what place of service code should my provider use?

  • Do I need a referral from my primary care provider?

    • Do I need pre-authorization?

  • Is there a maximum reimbursement allowed per unit?

    • How long is each allowed visit?

  • What is the process for submitting claims?

In-Network Opportunities/ Single Case Agreements

  • You may be able to have the MNT benefits applied to the “in-network” benefit side of your insurance plan if they do not have a registered dietitian in their network or if you have an eating disorder and they do not have a registered dietitian who is qualified to provide care. When insurance companies agree to cover an out-of-network practitioner under the “in-network” benefits, this is often called Gap coverage.

  • You may also be able to request a single case agreement for MNT depending upon your plan and diagnosis. Should you obtain a single case agreement or GAP coverage, we will require written documentation and information on copay, deductibles and how the insurance company would like to be billed for services.

Who do you work with?

We work with highly committed adolescents, adults, couples, and families who place trust in our process and are serious about taking action. These individuals are in a position to make an investment in their health, willing to learn and try new things, and willing to reimagine their relationship to food, mood, and body.

How often and how long are sessions?

At the beginning of treatment, we recommend meeting once per week, as many meals and food circumstances come up over the course of a week, we are getting to know each other, and you are forming trust, safety, and comfort within our collaboration. We often check in and collaborate to determine flow of frequency to meet moving forward after we’ve established a rhythm and are hitting milestones we’ve set together. Comprehensive initial assessments are 60 minutes, and follow-ups are ~30-45 minutes.

How long can I expect to work with you?

It depends! We have some clients that have come to nutrition counseling to work on very specific goals and find that after 6 months we’ve found a pausing point. We have other clients who previously met with us weekly, and now they’ve scaled back to less frequently as they’ve developed more nutrition-based skills and supports.

Monthly Holistic Nutrition + Wellness Counseling renews on a month-to-month basis. Although there is no minimum or maximum time commitment, on average, clients remain in the program for at least 6-9 months. Notice of cancellation submitted in writing/email verbal must be provided prior to ending the program. If when terminating there are sessions that have not occurred, the sessions will not be refunded but can be used at a mutually agreed upon later time for the client or can be forfeited.

How does payment work?

Payment is due in full at the top of the month for the subsequent month via square invoicing via credit card or bank account ACH transfer. Should you have eligibility you are welcome to utilize your FSA account. We require that you save your credit card on file. Superbills may be requested and are given to the client at the end of the month.

Alternative Financial Assistance

If you do not have out-of-network coverage and finances are an issue, we do offer a limited number of lower-price nutrition coaching spots for people with at least one marginalized identity who are also low-income.

To inquire about financial aid availability and eligibility, please email sam@rachelnaarnutrition.com with the subject line 'scholarship request'.

Note: please consider donating to our scholarship fund if you have the means to pay it forward. Every little bit counts!
